Hello Folks,

Not much news in the immediate area for the rest of the year, as things begin to wind down and we are in the midst of the holiday season, so I figured I would put out a post saying that, and giving some brief thoughts.

This year saw an attack on democracy by fascists and an ongoing attempt to destroy it. Funding for programs was looted, people lost jobs and livelihoods, and the United States participated in genocides, one in Gaza and one in the denial of food and medication through US Aid, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. Things are pretty bad.

However, there continues to be hope. Elections across the country have seen a massive swing against Trumpism. The public that brought us here also has seemed to turn away from it, acknowledging in some part that they have touched the stove and it has brought painful consequences. The judiciary that is not the Supreme Court seems to largely continue to enforce the rule of law, and while that is not enough to stop the suffering, it is enough to let it fall far short of the regime’s intended outcomes. With the public swinging away from this brand of politics, there is room for a new and better future, if we can last long enough to make it there.

And we will make it. The purpose I began this project with was to give every opportunity to move ourselves forward, to leverage the future into the best position that we can, through our efforts. And we have. Buffalo elected Sean Ryan, who sees the challenge of taking our city government from its current state of neglect and trying to make something that can serve its citizenry. There will not be a new jail in the coming years, because activists made a persuasive argument that this was unneeded and ruinously expensive, and they were listened to.

There is more work to be done. We will face challenges in the next year, and the years beyond, that will require us to come together. But it’s good to be in community with you, and I want nothing more then to see the community that we build together.

Solidarity Forever,

Havoc
